Nearer the time, I'll start a dedicated topic, where we'll have a little competition. Everyone can predict how many seconds into the first round it will take Ronda to submit Carmouche........the one nearest will get a special "Stewie-Prize"  ;D

brave from the ufc to throw them in headlining, but probably for the best! :D

great to see carmouche getting into the ufc as well, though sucks for her that shes basically being treated as a feeder fish for rousey until a bigger name becomes avaliable. still, shes an easy sell with her military background and she's imposing looking enough. just as long as nobody mentions her sexuality and we should be fine :P

she's a very decent fighter but she's lost to the best when she's fought them. still, she's very tough and strong so although nobody expects her to win, it shouldnt be a total squash match - or, at least, in the interest of it not being boring, lets hope it isnt.

Well in many ways the pressure is off Liz, because nobody expects her to last the first round. Its good exposure; she'll get a decent purse; if she lasts longer than Kaufman, it'll improve her standing.....plus, in her own mind, she should be thinking of having a puncher's chance. After all, nobody's unbeatable..........in theory! ;D

Have to admit I would have expected this to be a co-main-event with a mens title bout. Props to the UFC for having the guts to go the whole way. Bonus points if they put a number 1 contenders match on the same card.

Congrats to Ronda for earning the opportunity by being a media whiz. Congrats to Carmouche for convincing enough people she deserves the fight. She's almost certainly not going to win but I'll be cheering for her to wreck Ronda's party or at least turn it into a real fight. Should be fun to see how she approaches it seeing as her normal gameplan tends to be brawler style ground-and-pound. Might she be tempted to try and put Ronda on her back?

I'ma go on record and say that I think she'll last longer (and look better) than Kaufmann.

Quotejust as long as nobody mentions her sexuality and we should be fine

This is being mentioned in most articles already and nobody is bothering to devote more than one line to it. I think you'll find that it's mostly just completely glossed over. I think for some reason people would be more likely to find it newsworthy if it was an openly gay guy. It'll be interesting to see if the media decide to ask Ronda about it or not.

I'll be interested to see what line Ronda takes. She does love to trash talk, but Carmouche isn't the sort of person you can really do that with for the same reason that Sonnen and / or Bisping (I can't remember which one) didn't trash talk much with Brian Stann. Military service gets respect and you can't trash talk such individuals without people taking offense.

she's a very decent fighter but she's lost to the best when she's fought them.

It's worth noting that she was beating the hell out of Marloes Coenan in a Strikeforce title match for 3 and a bit rounds before she got submitted. She had mount multiple times in that fight and a lot of people think that if Strikeforce rules had allowed elbows at the time that she would have been able to force the stoppage. I tend to agree. While Coenan has been out of favour since losing that title (by arm triangle submission to Miesha Tate) she does have 14 wins by submission out of something like 25 fights. It was a great showing from Carmouche and if I remember rightly she took that fight on late notice.

Her other loss was a decision against Kaufmann which I haven't seen, but I assume it was probably a stand-up war for 3 rounds.

It occurs to me that a lot of people won't have seen her fight. So...

Carmouche vs Kaitlin Young from Invicta 2

Carmouche vs Ashleigh Curry from Invicta 1

ah, sorry, this was a joke referring the guy from cbs who recently posted on twitter that he didn't want his sons watching mma because it was "gay"... in retrospect that was kind of obscure so i probably should have made it a  bit more obvious :P

yep, she looked impressive against coenen for a lot of that fight but it's the results that matter (coenen spent a round comprehensively outgrappling tate and look where that got her). it was  a really good fight anyway, but she still wasn't able to force a stoppage when she needed to. she looked pretty bad against kaufman imo - a good chunk of the fight was her getting ground down along the fence, and she lost the standup pretty clearly and couldn't get her takedowns going. it was not a war - kaufman dominated the fight.

also, im beginning to hope rousey never loses, simply because if she does, stewies world will be shattered :P

Cris 'Cyborg' Santos: Ronda Rousey's Too Scared to Fight Me!

Ronda Rousey's too chicken to fight Cris 'Cyborg' Santos ... and that's why Cyborg won't be facing Rousey in Rousey's first ever UFC fight next February -- Cyborg's rep tells TMZ.

FYI -- Cyborg is widely regarded as one of the most dominant female MMA fighters on the planet ... famously beating up former "American Gladiators" star Gina Carano back in 2009.

According to the rep, "This is a fight all the fans want and we want to give to them. We have offered to fight Ronda at a catch weight of 140lbs. She has turned that offer down and will not budge to make this fight happen."

The rep adds, "Cyborg wants Rousey but can not and will not drop to 135 [Rousey's fighting weight]."

According to the rep, "We understand Ronda is worried about losing because of her new found fame. We are not worried about fame; we are worried about Cris' health."

The rep tells us, several doctors have said it would be unsafe for Cris (who fights at 145) to drop ten pounds for a bout.

Miesha Tate and Sara McMann deny turning down Rousey fight

Back in March Ronda Rousey submitted Miesha Tate with an armbar to take the Strikeforce 135-pound title:

After taking some time to heal an arm that Rousey described as being ripped like a turkey leg, Tate said she wanted a rematch.

However, Rousey, now the  UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, will face Liz Carmouche in first title defense.

Tate responded bluntly to reports that she had turned down the title shot, via Twitter.

    @FighterSpiritLA
Ronda said in her interview with Ariel that you turned down a rematch with her.

    Miesha Tate ‏@MieshaTate
    Straight up Lie

    @CCasiglio
just read Dana said u turned it down.

    Miesha Tate ‏@MieshaTate
    He's misinformed

US Olympian Sara McMann said she, too, did not turn down the fight.

    Sara McMann ‏@Sara_McMann
It is hard to turn down a fight... that was never offered #For The Record

Cris 'Cyborg' Santos: Ronda Rousey's Too Scared to Fight Me!

Ah, well, what else is poor cyborg to say? "I'll meet her at 140"? "I'm afraid of Ronda at 135"?

As if any of the women who will fight CC in the future will have more courage than Ronda??? ROTFLMAOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I have to say I was pretty bummed when Cris Cyborg tested positive for winstrol. I have always been someone that appreciates "the best" when it comes to sport - Floyd Mayweather, Anderson Silva, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Michael Schumacher... When I pay money to see professional sportsmen & women, that's what I want to see, the best - to see the sport played/performed to a level you're not going to see elsewhere.

Cyborg made some very good fighters in Shayna Baszler, Gina Carano, and Marloes Coenen, appear grossly outmatched.

Now they say it was all down to steroids. That's a bitter pill to swallow, both for her and the people that looked up to her. Even if/when she returns, I think it will take a long time to win back people's trust and admiration. Sometimes, these things seem to get forgotten about rather quickly, but on the other hand, it may be a stigma that always haunts her status and ultimately her legacy.
