Yeah, I was gonna say how about this Fallon Fox, transsexual MMA fighter, fighting genetic females. :o

I suppose this is the closest thing we'll have to intergender matches for now. ;) ;D

So far, Fox has won both of her fights by KO, but I'm sure a (genetic) girl will give her a hard fight soon.

I think they're all going to have to work hard to keep the hype/momentum going. Because there are so many weight divisions/characters in men's MMA, its pretty much self-sustaining. Apart from Ronda and Cyborg (very occasionally Tate) there's not much controversey in WMMA, generally. Problem is, when events are so far apart, casual fans (or potential new fans) can quickly lose interest.

TUF is going to be pretty strange. Ronda and <insert winner here> are basically going to be coaching their own future rivals? strange.

Plus I'm assuming that they're going to be putting all or most of the women they've contracted in there, which means there's some kind of chance that 20-fight veterans are going to be looking to Cat Zingano and her 8 fights as a coach. Weird.

It should be interesting to see how they run it. Realistically it would make sense for the girls to train with the guys and share the same coaches, that's how it would work in a real gym anyway. Should be fun to see how it works.

not that odd. for example, when jens pulver coached, joe lauzon was on his team... lauzon had beaten pulver by ko in his last fight before going on TUF.

as for zingano's credentials, experienced fighters have often turned out to be awful, awful coaches (rampage, ken shamrock) and given that most of the "nuts and bolts" coaching on the show is handled by a team of very experienced people chosen by the main coach, it's not as much of an issue issue

Right, but looks don't coach. Otherwise you'd be the best coach in the world Stewie!

Quotenot that odd. for example, when jens pulver coached, joe lauzon was on his team... lauzon had beaten pulver by ko in his last fight before going on TUF.

I didn't know that. That's slightly amusing. I guess that realistically whoever the fighters chosen as coaches are, it's the team of coaches that they bring in that does the real coaching. And you're right that good fighters don't always make good coaches. And in the case of Rampage and Ken Shamrock, bad old fighters don't make good coaches either!

Ediane Gomes has pulled out of her Invicta 5 match with Cris Cyborg due to injury.

Fiona Muxlow will step in as a replacement.

It was never a terribly compelling match to begin with and now the odds on Cyborg winning will have shortened even further. Still, it'll be good to see her back in action.

sammy_scuffles

And that's really the problem Cyborg faces - absolutely no quality opposition at 145.

Props to Muxlow for taking a tough fight on really short notice. I hope they're making it worth her while.

So, Invicta 5 is in the books. Cris Cyborg predictably pummelled Fiona Muxlow into a first round stoppage but there was somewhat of an upset as Michelle Waterson defeated Jessica Penne to win the 105 "atomweight" title. The Karate Hottie... Awesome.

Apparently Cyborg/Coenen 2 is in the works for the next Invicta event in July.

Next weekend it's Tate vs Zingano, UFC TUF 17 Finale. ;D

Also, another womens fight has been announced by the UFC. Alexis Davis vs Rosi Sexton @ UFC 161, June 15th.
