UFC 161: Rosi Sexton Has Been 'Blown Away' by Media Attention

As expected, Alexis Davis came away with the "W", but it was a fairly close fight with Rosi showing good take down and submission defence along with formidable grappling of her own as she took Davis the distance.

Davis has absolutely NO chance of beating Rousey. A close decision win against an older, smaller fighter who virtually came out of retirement and had to bulk up to make weight? This is the woman who lost twice to Kaufman and couldn't even sub her, despite a lengthy ground session. Contrast this to how quickly Ronda armbarred Sarah.

It would certainly be an upset, but upsets can and do happen in MMA. Davis would be her most formidable challenge to date IMO.

Short term, there are no shortage of potential opponents; Zingano, McMann, Davis, etc. Of course she'll be rematching Tate next; a fight that (let's face it) most of us are already looking past. But all that should keep her busy for the next 18 months.

Beyond that, it'll probably be time to start thinking about the Cyborg fight again, or (dare I say it) an intergender fight. ;)

I think that says more about the caliber of the opposition, than anything else. IMHO, Davis has NOTHING to bring to the table that Ronda can't give back in spades. The biggest threat would be from a solid kickboxer with good takedown defense, heavy hands and unorthodox style. Unfortunately, such a contender has yet to appear.

Agreed, but I do think Davis can avoid getting armbarred in the first round. Also, if she got Ronda's back like Carmoushe did, she stands a much better chance of finishing the fight.

Another problem is that Ronda is just plain bigger than a lot of these 135 girls and if all else fails she can revert to muscling her way through them.

Someone asked me what I thought of Tate's ass...I told them that I wasn't a big fan of Bryan Caraway.

p.s. Ronda's roommate, Marina Shafir, said she'd love to fight Bryan 'Tate' herself! ;D

Dana White: Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate 'Bring the Worst out in Each Other'

BY DAMON MARTIN (FEATURED COLUMNIST) ON JULY 7, 2013
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 officially wrapped up filming this past week with coaches Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate leading their teams of bantamweight men and women through a gauntlet of challenges to try and navigate their way to the finale fight later this year.

While the major component of TUF is the fighting, the other piece is the reality show portion, and apparently things on that side of the business got interesting this season.

It's no secret that Rousey and Tate dislike each other, and all their hatred surfaced during filming for the last several weeks.

"It was a great season, right down to the fights to make it to the finale. It was a good season," UFC president Dana White said about TUF 18 when speaking to the media after UFC 162.  "There were a couple of reality moments I had to get involved in, of course, cause these two are f—king nuts.  They hate each other, so I had to get involved a couple times."

The two fighters first crossed paths in 2011 when Rousey called out Tate following a win in Strikeforce.  The few months that followed were verbal sparring sessions that the women's division had never seen before.

Now with both coaching on The Ultimate Fighter Season 18, Rousey and Tate will rematch later this year with the belt on the line once again.  Maybe even bigger than the title is the rivalry that will finally come to a head in December as the main event of UFC 168.
White says once the editing and production are done, the show will debut on September 4, and he expects a great reaction from everyone watching.  No matter how much editing is done, however, White says Rousey and Tate took insanity to a whole new level this season.

"They're both going to look f—king crazy.  You know why?  They're both f—king crazy," White said.  "They bring the worst out in each other.  I see Ronda interact with other fighters—Cat Zingano walked over to her tonight and hugged her and Ronda's like 'Oh my god how are you feeling?  How long do you think it's going to be till you get back?'  Look at her and Liz Carmouche.  Her and Liz Carmouche loved each other, they were going to fight, they went out and tried to rip each other's heads off.

"These two bring the absolute f—king worst out of each other.  They both look like f—king lunatics."

The reality show drama between Rousey and Tate will only amplify the intensity on television, and the UFC hopes the ratings will follow.

It is the first season in The Ultimate Fighter history where women are not only serving as coaches but also where women's MMA fighters are competing as well.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 debuts on September 4 on the new Fox Sports 1 network.
