Just re-watched this and OMG! Holly totally pwns Ronda in EVERY department. The biggest surprise was how easily Holly nullified Ronda's judo throws and armbar attempt. Props to Holly and her trainers (Greg Jackson & Mike Winkeljohn) for devising and implementing a superb strategy. It just proves that successful MMA grappling defense can be learned in a relatively short time period - even against an Olympian judoka/newaza specialist.

Here is an excellent video breakdown which explains the techniques used. Much better than any of the "Gracie breakdowns" IMO....  8)

Ronda will come back from this, I have no doubt.

I'll be watching the re-match!

If anything, that defeat should slap some of the cockiness out of her.  I doubt she'll ever be as under prepared as this time again.

Best troll of Rousey yet - although it's being reported like Mayweather was defending her, he had to be laughing on the inside.

"I don't think it's cool how everyone is trolling her on social media. Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don't think is cool. I've never been on the other side, so I don't know how it feels. I'm pretty sure she's a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings." (my italics)

Rousey is getting slammed big time on social media. I happen to be a big fan of hers and don't get it. I am old enough to remember Clay/Ali..and when Ali lost his first fight to  Joe Frazier...many people were happy to see the "mouth" go down. I am certainly not comparing Rousey to Ali...but he revolutionized boxing in those days much like Rousey has revolutionized her sport. It's all about selling tickets (and pay for view these days) I was driving to work this morning and was listening to Dan Patrick interview Holly Holm's and he asked her about the Rousey bashing going on now. She was class personified...basically saying until you have the balls to get in the ring and fight one on one nobody has any idea what is going on. She said there's a reason why certain people can fight in that atmosphere. Holm's is one of them, and Rousey certainly is one, too...IMO.

I think there are a few reasons why this is happening. The analogy with Ali isn't quite the same. Ali was more tongue in cheek when he bragged and was quite comical: more like a pro wrestling showman. RR has that bitter, ex fat-girl, chip-on-the shoulder attitude and rather than exuding confidence, this makes her come across as insecure and defensive.

Ali's era was pre-internet, where the public were generally more respectful and had to confine their opinions to small social groups or work colleagues. Rousey is a product of the twitter/instagram generation, where arrogance and success seem to be qualities the young kids feel they must aspire to. People can sit behind a keyboard, putting their rude and abusive comments out to the world, without fear of any any comeback (other than a "didn't read, lol" gif). Problem is, RR used those very same media platforms to create and promote a nasty, vindictive persona. Not a good role model for young girls, IMO, but then again not much different from the popstar personalities they all worship anyway.

Finally, she's a woman who said she could beat up pro male fighters. The world isn't ready for that.

You nailed it, Stewie.

I liked Ronda at the beginning of her career. The fact that a good looking girl was destroying opposition with ease, using judo moves, was so new and exciting. Was it because she was so superior, or for whatever other reason, but she became extremely arrogant and, IMHO, obnoxious.

For me it came to the point that I started rooting for her rivals, whoever they were. Something I could not imagine a few years ago.

I was really happy to see her beaten like this.
